Rough Diamonds

Alluvial rough from the Kono fields — graded across colour and clarity, sealed and certified under the Kimberley Process.

Rough diamonds from Sierra Leone
KPCSCertified

Alluvial rough from the Kono fields — graded across colour and clarity, sealed under a serial-numbered Kimberley certificate.

Sierra Leone's alluvial diamonds need no introduction. What buyers actually need is certainty about where a stone came from and whether the parcel in front of them will clear customs on the other side. That is the whole of our business.

Valued by three parties

Every parcel is valued independently — by the exporter, the Government Diamond Valuer and an independent valuer. The highest valuation sets the duty payable. The process is deliberately outside our control.

Conflict-free by certificate, not by claim

Sierra Leone is a full participant in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme. Parcels are sealed at the Precious Minerals Trading Directorate before a Senior Mines Monitoring Officer and a Customs Officer, then issued a serial-numbered certificate.

Buying rough diamonds in Sierra Leone

How to buy rough diamonds in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is one of the world's established sources of alluvial rough diamonds, drawn largely from the Kono district fields. Buying rough diamonds here lawfully means buying through a licensed exporter under the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) — the international system that confirms stones are conflict-free and legitimately sourced. Nova Parameter supplies KPCS-certified rough, graded across colour and clarity and sealed under serial-numbered certificate.

Kimberley Process certification

Every rough diamond parcel we export is valued by independent government valuers and sealed at the Precious Minerals Trading Directorate, accompanied by a serial-numbered Kimberley Process certificate. That certificate is your proof of lawful, conflict-free origin and is required for the parcel to clear customs in your destination country.

How rough diamonds are graded & valued

Rough is assessed across the standard criteria — carat, colour, clarity and shape — by a three-valuer government system that establishes an on-record value before export. This independent valuation protects the buyer: you are not relying on the seller's word for what a parcel is worth.

Diamond export duty & charges

A 3% export duty applies to rough diamonds, plus a 0.3% advance income tax and a 0.05% contribution to a rehabilitation fund, settled before the sealed parcel is cleared. We handle valuation, certification, duty and insured shipment end to end.
